I want to remember...

the way that LouLou looks at her new sister and says..."mommy ain't she beautiful"

how Little Bitty looked napping in her car seat yesterday...those lashes on her cheeks...that little mouth open... breathing deeply

Bo looking at his new baby sister..."that's a pretty baby mom"

Bo bringing her car seat to the van for me...such a big helper

brothers in the backyard...pretending the picnic table they made for LouLou is a boat...their fishing...while I'm watching from the window...my boys...how my heart swells

that sweet baby...her smell...eyes squinting in the light...cheeks so fat...drippin with sugar...those little ears...I want to bury my nose behind them and breath deeply...I do...cherishing

that man I love...washing some dishes...giving some baths...rocking little ones to sleep...and drying tears...when he is gentle with us my heart melts

Winter Weather

We had a little snow and ice last week, so I thought we would go out and enjoy the winter weather.  By the time we made it out, the sleet had turned to a cold rain, so we only stayed about 15 minutes.  We combined a winter weather study with our winter tree study.

It was 31 degrees and icy.  The sky was gray.  We looked for tracks in the snow and ice.  We saw lots of tracks from our chickens and tracks from our dogs.  There were icicles hanging from our house and cars.  The trees and bushes were covered with a thin layer of ice.

 icicles
gray sky and icy branch

Here's the dogwood in winter.
The boys noticed ice on the branches and bare limbs.  They heard rain falling as we took a close look at our tree in winter.

When we came in, we took the time for an entry into our nature notebooks.  The boys enjoyed this.  It had been a few weeks since we had made an entry into our notebooks.

Those Funny Little Comments...Make My Day

"It's the the best, worst thing I've tasted."
Bo on the Macadamia nuts I let him taste as we were making cookies.

Me:  God formed Adam out of the dust of the earth.  Do you know what he made Eve out of?
LouLou: Play-doh?

Outdoor Nature Hour...Weather

We began a brief study of weather with this nature study challenge.  We started by reading the book Weather Words by Gail Gibbons.  After reading the book we watched one of the you tube videos recommended on the challenge page.

Here are the little ones enjoying the videos on weather.
Here are the clouds we observed after learning about weather...
The temperature was 40 degrees.
The wind seemed to be blowing from the Northwest.
We saw two types of clouds.  Boo said that one looked like tractor tracks.  I thought the other looked like a blanket over the sky.

The boys created a nature journal entry by drawing clouds on blue construction paper and cutting it out and taping it into their notebooks.  They noted the temperature and wind direction.
