Nature Study With The Littlest Littles

After baby brother was born the three oldest spent the night with MawMaw and Pop
The three youngest were home with mommy.
During little brothers nap one day, I took the opportunity to do nature study with Little Bitty and Neenzie.
We took a walk down the driveway and looked for some interesting things to draw...
We found wood sorrell...henbit and a yellow butterfly
(not sure what the tongues all about?)
Here she is proud of her drawing.  It reminded me of the nature journal I made with Bo when he was this age;-)

Adventurous Boys...

The last week in October three of our men took an adventure...
backpacks carrying all they would need for three days...
into the wilderness to hike...
The Appalachian Trail
It was lots of fun...but it wasn't always easy...
they persevered...
and had lots of fun just
being
with
each
other...

Fall Field Trip Time...

Yesterday we headed out to 4-D Farm
for a fun field trip.  Here are some pictures capturing the memories of the day...
storytime in barn, gigantic slide, petting zoo, corn maze, pumpkin patch, play barn, bouncer, tire tower...
Bo was the squeal leader for the pig with the red bandanna...and porkchop the pig was the winner of the pig races...so Bo got a pig nose as a prize.
playing on the giant spider web...
this farm kitty let the girls carry it around all day...they pretended it was their baby and I think that was there favorite part:-)
getting ready to ride the cow train...

I want to remember...

I always want to remember how you woke from your nap today...
all smiles and giggles and songs
begging to hold that new little brother.
I always want to remember how that smile melts my heart...
I am in awe that God would place you here...
entrusting you to our care.

toddler ponytails
and chubby cheeks...

Little Entrepreneurs

Since moving to our new home the boys have started a business.
We live across the road from my grandmother.  Her land joins a golf course.  The boys have started looking for golf balls in her pasture, washing, bagging, and reselling them.

Start up costs...8.64...for baggies and cleaner
Time involved...about 45 minutes once per week to look for balls
30-45 minutes to wash, sort and bag the balls
Saturday mornings or afternoons in the pasture next to the golf course...
they are happy...I promise...just the sun grins...

initial investment...8.64 and a little time
total profit...56.00
We Are So Proud Of You!

Our New Home...

The last few weeks we have been moving and adjusting to life in our new home.
We moved at the end of July and wanted plenty of time to get moved in and into a new routine before
we added a new baby to the mix.  We were doing great with our new routine and even got about 4 weeks of school finished before we took a break for our newest addition.
Here are the boys on the new front porch...
the boys were excited to have a pond...but I wanted it fenced off before we even moved...
One of my favorite places...the china cabinet with our pictures and nature study finds...I'm not one for fancy china...so this idea fit us perfectly!

Gingerbread Men In June...

Mr. Boo has just finished reading The Gingerbread Boy in his reader.
I also picked up a free copy of The Gingerbread Man at the homeschool conference.
Well, that means everyone wanted to make gingerbread men for a snack...
So yesterday after our schooltime in the afternoon we worked together and made some...
Boo mixing the wet ingredients
posing for a picture
these two girls went a little wild with the sprinkes
and
unless anyone thinks it all went so smoothly
this little girl had to sit in her high chair after she...
dumped the spaghetti noodles out in the pantry
pulled the raisins off of the table
grabbed a nicely decorated gingerbread woman and gave her a squeeze:-)
